CSD 7630 - Pediatric/Educational Audiology


Discussions will cover the embryologic development of the auditory system, audiometric evaluation of infants and children, counseling and educational issues of children identified with hearing loss, pathological conditions and syndromes affecting the pediatric population, and issues germane to pediatric hearing aid selection and verification.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of auditory embryologic development.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the educational needs of children with hearing loss and related communication disorders.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the family needs and counseling issues of newly identified children with hearing loss.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the federal and state school legislation for children with hearing loss.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the methods for obtaining behavioral and non-behavioral responses from the pediatric population.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the screening protocol requirements in the school setting.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the universal newborn hearing protocol for assessment and rehabilitation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge on how to select and verify a hearing aid for a pediatric patient.
  • Recognize pathological conditions that affect communication and auditory development in the pediatric population.
  • Recognize the expected auditory behavioral and non-behavioral responses of the pediatric population.
  • Recognize the requirements and responsibilities of a school audiologist.
