CE 8640 - Transit Planning Several essential topics related to public transit systems and management/safety/regulatory issues related to them.
Requisites: CE 7640 Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May not be retaken. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students understandl travel demand forecasting, elasticity coefficients, and congestion pricing.
- Students will be introduced to asset management and design issues.
- Students will be introduced to bus stop and station/terminal design, vehicle capacity and fleet design.
- Students will learn about human service agency coordination practices.
- Students will learn history of public transit and federal/state legislation.
- Students will learn transit board relations.
- Students will safety and security issues concerning public transit systems.
- Students will study busses, trolleybusses and streetcars as rapid transit modes.
- Students will study heavy rail, commuter rail, and subways.
- Students will study light rail systems such as monorails, and other guided automated systems.
- Students will study paratransit, ridersharing, carpooling, and taxis.
