CE 5200 - Finite Element Methods in Engineering


Background theory, formulation, and application to one- and two-dimensional problems and techniques for analysis. Structures, consolidation, and wave propagation.

  • Students will be able to formulate and use interpolation functions.
  • Students will be able to formulate stiffness matrix and solve the problem through direct stiffness method.
  • Students will be able to perform numerical integrations.
  • Students will become familiarized with the concept of discretization.
  • Students will grasp overall approaches involved in finite element analysis.
  • Students will learn how to formulate and solve beam bending problems.
  • Students will learn how to formulate and solve one-dimensional flow problems.
  • Students will learn how to formulate and solve one-dimensional stress propagation problems.
  • Students will learn how to formulate and solve one-dimensional stress-strain problems.
