EDHE 7390 - The American Community College



An overview of the philosophy, history, and development of the community college in America. Reviews the social, economic, and political forces affecting these institutions. It also explores the rationale and techniques for keeping instructional and organizational functions responsive to the changing educational and workforce needs of the community. Will explore the development of the most exciting and uniquely American innovation in higher education since World War II, the community college. How and why did they come into being, how do they really work, and how can we make them more effective?
