SW 5921 - Foundation Practicum 1


Provides integration of generalist theory and practice, including professional ethics and behavior. Students orient to the agency and begin supervised generalist practice activities across 112 hours, including case management, groupwork, education, and advocacy under the auspices of a social service agency. Courses in the 5921-5922 (face-to-face) and 5921, 5923, and 5924 (eCampus) sequences are evaluated using learning outcomes derived from the Council on Social Work Education’s Educational Policies and Accreditation Standards (2022), including the competencies and practice behaviors described therein. As students progress through each course, they are expected to demonstrate greater independence with planning and execution of learning activities that fulfill the competencies.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to implement learning activities consistent with generalist social work competencies and practice behaviors

  • Students will be able to integrate theory and research in engagement, assessment, intervention, and evaluation at the individual, family, organization, group, and community levels
  • Students will be able to formulate strategies of anti-racist and anti-oppressive practice to advance human rights and social justice
