Sports Administration, Professional Program (Online)

Program Overview: Building on the existing, on-campus MSA program, the Professional MSA program is designed specifically to provide the practicing sport professionals with the opportunity to further develop their leadership potential and refine their critical thinking and problem solving skills while keeping their full-time jobs. Specifically, practicing sport professionals who engage in this online MSA will develop a better understanding of current issues in marketing, sales, facility and event management, law, ethics, and research in the sport industry. Upon completion of the degree, students will have demonstrated increased knowledge of the sport industry and possess new sales, management and marketing skills that will enable them to advance their careers within the competitive sport industry.

Admissions Policy: Admission to the program is highly selective. Like other highly specialized graduate programs, it requires an excellent academic background. 

Specific requirements are: 

  • A minimum of three years full-time employment in the sports industry.
  • Three letters of recommendation including two from alumni of the Ohio University Sports Administration program.
  • A current resume.

No test scores are required. 

A student needs to submit the online Graduate Student Application. The program name is Professional MSA and the program code is MS8161.

Change Policy: The Professional MSA is a lock-step, cohort program. Students currently enrolled in other Ohio University graduate programs must meet the stated admission standards and follow the normal application process.

Transfer Policy: The Professional MSA is a lock-step, cohort program. Students currently enrolled in other graduate programs must meet the stated admission standards and follow the normal application process.

Opportunities: Graduates of the MSA program work in all areas of sports administration, including intercollegiate athletics; professional sports teams, leagues, and tours; motorsports; athletic and entertainment facilities; advertising and sport marketing agencies; and sport businesses. Currently, over 80% of MSA graduates work in sport and sport-related industries
