Educational Administration M.Ed.

Program Overview: The Master’s Degree program in Educational Administration involves a minimum of 33 semester hours encompassing the study of the foundations of educational leadership, the nature of school organizations, human relations in educational organizations, and research methods and applications. Additional specialized study and field experiences are included to prepare the students for varied administrative roles.

Admissions Policy: Applicants for admission are required to submit the following:

  1. an application form (the online application is encouraged; application is for the Educational Studies Department; the code is ME6272);
  2. two transcripts from each institution from which credit has been earned prior to admissions, including transcripts for credits transferred from one institution to another;
  3. three recommendations, either using an official recommendation form from Ohio University or placed on the organizational letterhead of the individual making the recommendation (the recommendation forms can be found at http://www.ohio.edu/graduate/programs.cfm);
  4. an autobiography focused upon the professional career and objectives of the applicant. Applicants for admission must exhibit a minimum GPA of 2.9 in the undergraduate course work of a bachelor’s degree, a 3.25 GPA in the last 90 hours of a bachelor’s degree, or a 3.5 GPA in the course work comprising a master’s degree (note: undergraduate course work taken after the obtainment of a bachelor’s degree cannot be included in the calculations). An applicant whose GPA is below the levels stated can be considered by taking and reporting the Graduate Record Exam).

Change Policy: Not Applicable.

Transfer Policy: No requirements beyond University admission requirements.

Opportunities: Program graduates typically assume positions as school principals, school superintendents, and other K-12 educational leaders, or they continue to serve as teachers in K-12 settings. Other graduates enter doctoral programs in leadership and related fields.
