PETE 4000 - Curriculum and Instruction for Physical Education


The purpose is to provide a framework for using the National Standards/Ohio Academic Content Standards for Physical Education to design a k-12 physical education curriculum. Teacher candidates will explore the historical development of physical education in the U.S., and examine main theme curricula models as the organizing framework for the development of innovative physical education curriculum designed to enhance student learning in physical education. Teacher candidates will explore PK-12 physical education planning and curriculum concepts as well as instructional strategies to produce developmentally appropriate lessons and units for a diverse group of learners in various contexts. Utilizes a hands-on approach to apply principles of instruction and curriculum design to the development of teaching sequences and to develop and evaluate instructional materials.

Credit Hours: 3.0
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture
Eligible grades: A-F,WP,WF,FN,FS,AU,I
