HIST 337B - Middle East 1500-1800 Islamic history and civilization during the period of the great “gunpowder empires.” Includes discussion of Turko-Mongol background, role of Tamerlane; origins of Ottomans, Safavids, and Mughals; military organization, kingship, “harlem politics,” cultural developments, and decline and transformation of these great empires.
Prerequisites: SOPH OR JR OR SR & NOT HIST 335A Credit Hours: 4 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
